Job Purpose
Backup System Administrator provides level 3 Backup and Recovery support, with a strong technical understanding of Windows, Linux, ESXi, Storage, Tooling & Monitoring.
Job Description
Perform daily monitoring and management of the backup environment
Perform problem management and incident correlation on re-occurring issues
Create and provide reports for backup and storage environments, related activities, and tasks
Create and update documentation for backup environments
Be an escalation point on all backup issues
Develop and exhibit technical subject matter expertise on the assigned backup and storage systems along with associated processes and procedures
Perform change management and incident management for backup and archiving infrastructure
Knowledge of Linux environments, including deployment, administration, networking, performance monitoring/tuning, security hardening, troubleshooting and production operations. Perform deployment and provisioning Linux distributions (preferred Red Hat, Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu, Gentoo) OS as required
Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
Enhance processes and procedures to perform automated daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
Contribute to document and maintain system standards
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage resources
Provide engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs
Document and prepare compliance evidence associated with patching, baseline monitoring and system recovery activities
Support security and health monitoring activities
Support ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization
Support investigating and troubleshooting issues to include coordination with Network, Telephony, and Virtualization Teams.
To be successful in this role, the selected candidate will have/display
CS Bachelor’s degree preferred
5 years’ working experience with Veeam and Backup
Linux Plus or equivalent certification desired
Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written correspondence) in a professional and courteous manner with technical and non-technical personnel
Experience documenting system configuration and evidence of compliance associated with regulatory standards
Strong experience with Virtualization environments
Positive attitude with a drive to learn and grow
Organization skills with the ability to prioritize
Ability to have strong customer service with both internal and external customers
Ownership of tasks, issues, and assignments
Ability to participate in a 24x7 rotational coverage
Proactive attitude regarding capacity planning and new technology implementation.
